Archiving Policy

At the Journal of Law and Social Studies (JLSS), we highly value transparency and the rights of our authors. Our archiving policy is designed to empower authors by allowing them to freely share their research while respecting the following guidelines:

SelfArchiving of Articles, Including Preprints

Even after authors sign the Copyright Transfer Statement, JLSS ensures that authors retain substantial rights, particularly regarding self-archiving. This policy grants authors the freedom to self-archive their scholarly articles, including preprints and the author’s accepted manuscript versions.

  1. Preprints: A preprint represents the author’s article before it undergoes peer review. Before formal publication acceptance, authors can share preprints in the following ways:

     On their websites

On preprint servers adhering to legal standards

After the article’s official publication, authors should update the preprint to include an acknowledgement and a link to the final version on the publisher’s website. The acknowledgement may read: “This is a preprint of an article published in [insert journal title]. The final authenticated version is available online at: https://doi.org/[insert DOI].”

  1. Author’s Accepted Manuscript (AAM): The AAM is the version of the article accepted for publication, post peer review but before copyediting and typesetting. Authors have the following options for sharing their AAM:

Authors can share their AAM on their websites immediately upon acceptance.

Authors also retain the right to make their AAM publicly accessible after an embargo period of up to 12 months from the initial publication. During this Embargo Period, authors can post the AAM on the following platforms:

       Their employer’s internal website

       Institutional repositories

       Funder repositories

It’s important to note that AAMs may be deposited in these repositories immediately upon acceptance but should not be made publicly available until after the Embargo Period.

Authors should include an acknowledgement, along with a link to the published version on the publisher’s website: “This is a post peer review, pre-copyedit version of an article published in [insert journal title]. The final authenticated version is available online at: http://dx.doi.org/[insert DOI].”

This archiving policy underscores JLSS’s dedication to respecting authors’ rights and promoting open access to research. We encourage authors to share their work while ensuring the appropriate acknowledgement and linking to the final published version.
